I got to recap my refrigerator tonight! That was unexpected. GE GSH25SGRB SS. Was just clicking.
No compressor, wasn't cooling.
Main board had two caps going bulgy wulgy. Nichicon 470uf @ 25V.

I didn't have the right caps in stock, so just used what I had on hand (cheapo bulk Chinese caps) - they'll probably last a few weeks until the right ones come in.

It's working again for now, at least :)

@eaches it has survived the years quite well besides a little yellowing. Definitely well built!

@smoliva I absolutely love my Zenith 181!

It's one of the few machines I actually made a video about!

Remember the sound of an old slide projector? A chewing gum machine? A coffee mill?

#ConserveTheSound puts together a virtual audio #museum of (almost) lost everyday #sound:

@f00fc7c8 Even the kindest, most moral person has had the thought of kicking a baby like a football.

It happens. It's part of the human condition. Realizing it's a normal thing is important. Talking about it should be normalized.

@shyra That's fair. I'm in the "Wait until something breaks, then I'll notice eventually, and fix it" camp lol. I did notice it uses a lot more storage than I had expected, so I migrated to an Amazon S3 bucket for media, but that's been my only "maintenance" so far and I just happened to randomly notice my SSD was almost full when I was seeing how much bandwidth I had been using.

@shyra What have you found difficult in the admin of the normal mastodon instance? I'm on the spectrum and have ADHD, and I have found it's pretty much "Check the trends every few days" - beyond that, it's been "set it, and forget it" for maintenance.

How about we kickoff this comeback with a bit of #RetroHardware ?

@lefebvre Have you seen my 400 yet? Replaced the keyboard with a Mobeets unit, Outemu Blue switches, upgraded to 48K, and runs off a SIO2PC with Fujinet-PC.

I have migrated my instance over to Bucket.

The guide missed some things, had some things out of date, and was a bit frustrating, but I got through it.

Too bad I didn't take notes, would have been nice to keep anyone else from the same hiccups.

But now I don't have to worry about my 60GB SSD filling up lol.

@retronianne This song haunts my nightmares lol. One of the claw machines at the arcade I run plays part of this song every time someone wins, lol.

But why is this printer dressed up as a cat? 🐯

As somebody who has both some printers and some cats, I don’t really trust either to actually print. And combining them just seems unnecessarily chaotic.

@roygreenhilt I've wondered how nice it would be to "partner" with another server so both local feeds could be shared.

That would be neat, even if on a per-user basis instead of a server-wide thing.
