@byteshift69 Glitchworks makes a drop in replacement that uses a coin cell, if you don't want to go through the hassle. They're awesome.

Today's #linux discovery was the "btop" utility. I particularly like how it shows the cpu temperature 😎

@DosFox@tech.lgbt Reading that thread over at VCF gives a lot of ideas of the limitations of a direct swap. You'd need a lot more circuitry than just the CPU pin adaptation, but a direct-plug "interposer" would be kinda neat. I'd imagine even an extremely basic adapter would still have to be sizeable.

@DosFox@tech.lgbt That last one is already possible with a stack of converters and/or an expansion card lol.

@anthony They never really "left", but got used less and less as search engines became somewhat useful. There are still quite a few out there, but don't see a lot of traffic.

@foone For charging, you should put in one of those "shake a can" style generators. Then all the wanking motions you make at your coworker's bad jokes will recharge the battery!

My latest Terrible Keyboard is out, in video form this time (1m39s). It's the CubeKeyboard!

@ClarusPlusPlus I forget semicolons all the time. ++i vs i++, yadda yadda

Shit happens :)

@lorddimwit The first Linux distro I ever installed was Slackware 10. Didn't last that long, as I had no idea what I was doing at the time. Ended up on Ubuntu in 2008 and then Xubuntu shortly after, and have never looked back.

@yearof Who is providing said LSD? Do I get an unlimited supply? We gonna party like it's the 60s again!

@drunkenmadman Well that makes sense. I never realized it was a completely different company in AU than US.

@reidrac@mastodon.sdf.org That's awesome! I always loved Olivetti's Aesthetics, I just hate trying to fix them when things go wrong, lol. My current headache is an "AT&T 6386/WGS" that's a rebadged Olivetti M380-XP3? I think. It's such a weird design.

Did you know that I run a server? We have over 600 members, a lovely community of retro tech enthusiasts. Invites are open at discord.gg/xnnUaKN

You can also connect via ! All discord channels except two are instantly mirrored on my IRC server at irc.yestergearpc.com:6667 - you can bring your old machine online and chat with the modern world! Don't be afraid to do a /list, there's only 24 channels! (Feel free to use the server for your own channels too, if you like)

@reidrac@mastodon.sdf.org That is an aesthetically pleasing machine. I'd add it to my "must find" list, but it's made by Olivetti. Every Olivetti machine I've tried to resurrect has given me headaches lol. I think of them like the Ferrari of computers: Italian Odd Engineering with expensive parts and frustrating decisions.
