@RoyGreenhilt You're in my neck of the woods! I live in Berlin, but work in Conway managing the local Video Game Arcade. If you pass through Conway, stop in at Ryan's!
@kiwa konsumi krurkovraĵon
@emma indeed. I have a decent home lab setup, but $30 was easier than configuring another vpn passthrough to pipe another domain into my basement lol.
Greetings Mastodonians! I am JamHamster and do this sort of thing.
Oh, and other stuff, mainly #retrogaming related.
I also have no clue how this works, am I doing this right? 😂
@emma replied to Adam above, but I'll drop it here too ;)
@adam https://www.racknerd.com/BlackFriday/
I have a handful with racknerd, but their black Friday deals are always awesome
@davidihewlett@nerdculture.de I just spun up my own yesterday. $30/yr racknerd vps with Debian 11.
Followed this guide, and was online in no time.

@WysiWyg_Protogen basically, anyone you follow's data is pulled by your server from their server.
The only real difficulty is finding people to follow if your current follows don't "promote" (retoot) stuff from people you might be interested in.
I recommend hitting https://fedifinder.glitch.me/ and exporting your Twitter following that have posted mastodon addresses, which you can then import.
Yes, having more characters is awesome 😎
@WysiWyg_Protogen you can export/import accounts from what I understand.
Export, create new account, import, then delete the old one.
Action Retro's server seems to be pretty hot. Or, just join mine lol.
@jtgans from another person: "Also if you're new to Mastodon, please check out Tootle or MetaText instead of the official app. Both are much better"
@futurewas8bit private property shenanigans are the best shenanigans. Now do a donut.
@adam Absolutely. $30 for a 1-year VPS with enough guts and bandwidth to run 50 or so users. Finally found a use for the 5-character domain I've been using for just my email for 10+ years, but had since 2001 lol.
Who's better to control your data than you?
@torbar While I cannot reply for the whole world, I can say Hello! from my tiny corner of the world ;)
In that case, anything I can load a debian-based distro + XFCE on is A-OK ;)
@c0zm0zg4m3z this is a reply 😃
