I'm not a particularly dramallama oriented person, so mostly I avoid the handwringing and tablepounding in social media circles.

I think the #fediblock process that's happening on some servers wrt journa.host is... interesting and may signal how Mastodon evolves.

This article I think broke it down nicely. cjr.org/analysis/journalists-w

FTR, I really like the block mechanism in mastodon - this isn't like a service-wide ban of an instance. Just a block for the instance you're on.

@RoyGreenhilt Being able to block unwanted content, or groups of content creators/boosters is very much needed for the way the Mastodon federation works. Without a central "banning/moderation" authority, it's mandatory.

Communities being able to tailor their feeds to meet their needs is a wonderful thing.

My personal instance has thus far only blocked servers based on "art of underage people doing things underage people shouldn't be doing", as I don't want that touching my storage in any way.

@yestergearpc Holy cow no argument there!

And I see #fediblock maturity continuing and evolving - I think it's going in the right direction, and the very nature of how #mastodon handles it is quite good.

Onward!
