Hmmm not sure if I chose the right server. Is it possible to migrate or use the same account on multiple servers? By far the most confusing part of the federated network. Will do research in a little after I finish this damn paper

Edit: I wonder if there's the same number of homework assignment due date help essay bots on Mastodon as there are on Twitter. Hmmm

Edit 2: I wonder if it's better to do edits or extra toots in a thread. I'm not used to this feature

@WysiWyg_Protogen you can export/import accounts from what I understand.

Export, create new account, import, then delete the old one.

Action Retro's server seems to be pretty hot. Or, just join mine lol.

@yestergearpc The thing I don't quite get is communication BETWEEN servers. I guess it seems like I can talk to you despite not being on your server, so it shouldn't matter? Seems simultaneously like an insignificant but also a very significant part of the platform, and that's what's confusing. I don't know what the benefit is to using [x] server over another oh my gOD I LOVE HAVING 500 CHARACTERS NOW THIS IS AMAZING

@WysiWyg_Protogen @yestergearpc in theory I think the only real difference/ benefit between servers should be resourcing? Both in literal server capacity and admin volunteering effect.

The whole point of the fedi thing is that we can talk to one another, so I think it really comes down to picking somewhere you feel comfortable with the admin team etc

@WysiWyg_Protogen basically, anyone you follow's data is pulled by your server from their server.

The only real difficulty is finding people to follow if your current follows don't "promote" (retoot) stuff from people you might be interested in.

I recommend hitting fedifinder.glitch.me/ and exporting your Twitter following that have posted mastodon addresses, which you can then import.

Yes, having more characters is awesome 😎

@WysiWyg_Protogen @yestergearpc One thing I've noticed is that the bigger servers "keep track" of more of the Fediverse because of all their users following many people. It makes it easier to do hashtag searches on the bigger servers, but it also makes the local timeline pretty useless.

What I did: Move an account (and followers) to a smaller server but keep an account on one of the big ones for handy searching.
